About Butter

This is me, eating Magnolia Bakery’s famous cupcakes. My name is Natasha and I am an amateur baker, pastry chef in training and lover of baked goods.

Pastries, pies, cookies, batter, dough and all things dough-like make me happy. I would live off raw chocolate chip cookie dough if I could.

I love going to all of the best bakeries in Melbourne, and around the world when I get to travel, to sample their croissants and pastries, see how they do things, think about how I would do it differently. I really do it because I love to eat pastries, but it is all under the pretense of research for my (hopefully) future bakery. Yes, pastry research.

Have you seen It’s Complicated? Have you seen her bakery?  To open something like that bakery is my dream. To happily wear an apron and bake all day. That is all I want to do.

Last year was my final year at university, and about halfway through I decided that public relations was absolutely not for me and that I never wanted to have to use my degree. I wanted to bake instead. As soon as I made that decision, I started Butter so I could throw myself into baking while I finished my bachelor’s.
Then I got a job at a cupcake shop, and as hard as it is to get up in the morning, I love doing the early morning bake.

Baking at home in my kitchen and blogging on Butter make me ridiculously happy. And now that I have finished my degree, I am enrolled in culinary school and studying patisserie; one step closer to my bakery dream.

I started Butter not just to grow and share my baking adventures, but as a way to keep track of all my recipes. I have recipes everywhere. Bookmarked on my laptop. Saved on Pinterest. In stacks on the kitchen counter. In stacks on the coffee table. Bookmarked on the household computer. In my recipe book. In my mum’s recipe box. Bookmarked on my mum’s laptop. In my recipe folder. On my desk. In my handbag. Saved as photographs on my iPhone. In my bedroom drawers. On my actual pinboard. Everywhere.
This makes things a lot easier.

I hope you enjoy my blog and my recipes. Expect lots of cookies and pies. And not so many cakes.

If you would like to contact me, please send me an email to butterbaking [at] hotmail [dot] com.
You can also follow me on Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram.

On a final note: Milk + Cookies = Happiness.

PS. When I started this blog, a little under a year ago, I never imagined it would grow and blossom into what it has become today. I remember saying to my boyfriend, that I’m excited to be starting a blog, but that no one will ever read it. I honestly thought, that no one would ever read Butter, that it would be just for me, and maybe for a few of my friends.
I can’t explain how excited I was the first time I got 100 page views in one day. And then 1,000, and then 5,000, and so on.
Butter has grown into something fantastic that I am extremely proud of, that I work very hard at, and that I absolutely love doing.
As I once believed no one would ever read my little blog, I never thought I would have to say this, but due to some recent issues, please – all of the photos, and some of the recipes on Butter are my own hard work and creation. If you recreate one of my original recipes on your own blog, please, please give me credit and link back to me. And if you would like to use one of my photos, please email me first to ask at butterbaking[at]hotmail[dot]com. I would really appreciate it :-)
Thanks for visiting!

Natasha.

    • SOULA! Thanks for subscribing :-) I’m so glad you did! We ate those cupcakes together, remember?
Go and buy a measuring cup and kitchen scales and you won’t need to convert anything! As a quick tip, 1 stick of your butter = 110g (grams). And from now on I’ll try and include ounces for you!

I adore you blog and am blown away by your beautiful pictures. What kind of camera do you use and editing software?

    Keep up the incredible work!

    • Hi Farrah! Thanks so much for the compliments :-) I use a Canon 550D and don’t really edit my photos; sometimes I adjust the contrast. I find it has more to do with lighting than editing, but I love my camera and highly recommend it!

Keep your passion! Success isn’t necessarily defined by $, but those that are the most financially successful are doing what they love and have a passion for! Good luck preparing for your own bakery…sounds like you’ve got your head stuck on right! Enjoy your journey…I’m going to keep reading and trying your recipes…and when I get to Melbourne, I expect you to have your own bakery!
